What is Hormonal Imbalance and root causes?

Hormonal imbalance occurs when there is too much or too little of a hormone in the bloodstream. Because of their essential role in the body, even small hormonal imbalances can cause significant side effects throughout the body. 

Hormones are critical to regulating most major bodily processes, including metabolism, growth and development, mood, sexual function, and reproductive processes. When the body’s hormone levels are out of balance, it can lead to a range of health issues, including fatigue, weight gain or loss, mood swings, irregular periods, infertility, and more. These imbalances can affect women at various stages of life, from puberty and menstruation to pregnancy and menopause.

The root causes of hormonal imbalances are varied and can be influenced by lifestyle, environmental factors, and underlying health conditions. Common causes include poor diet, chronic stress, lack of physical activity, and exposure to environmental toxins, all of which can disrupt hormone production and regulation. 

Additionally, conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, and diabetes can lead to significant hormonal fluctuations. Other contributing factors include genetics, aging, and the use of certain medications or birth control. Understanding these root causes is essential for developing effective strategies to manage and treat hormonal imbalances.

Just like the rest of your body, your hormones are influenced by the food you eat, the environment you live in, & the activities you do. But did you know that your digestive system is also connected to your hormone production & breakdown?

Your gut is home to trillions of bacteria & microorganisms. They help with digestion & fight off infections. Some of them are in charge of modulating your hormone production & breakdown. This can be good if balanced, but some women experience imbalances that cause their hormones to go all over the place. 

Your metabolism & digestive power change every day as & when your hormones move & flow.

Hormones are created in your gut, so if it’s not functioning well, they are probably imbalancing your hormones too.
